oils on classeans belgian linen canvas
SOLD
This is the painting that was recently sold to Karen Schmidt... to cut a long story short, the original painting had been mounted wrongly and i decided to repaint it while the framer sorted out the problem. By the time he had sorted it out, I was well on my way into this one and determined to make it better as I had already made Karen wait for the painting she originally wanted. It was an anxious two weeks as I had made many changes and she and her husband had liked the original. this evening i sighed with relief... they had finally got it and are delighted with it... what more can i ask for? they very kindly sent me a photo of it in their home:)
this brightened my evening as i have just had a wee operation on my right hand and won't be able to paint for a while... i shouldn't even be typing and i think my doc sometimes looks at my blog....

The paintings wonderful. And you types so well, with your left hand…
Rahina,
This is a great painting!!! I'm so gland my wife bought it for me!! You truly are a gifted artist. I loved this painting the first time I saw it and now it's mine! Again thank you for painting it.
Terrible setback
I wish you a speedy recovery, sometimes also get good news, perhaps less than we'd like
Take care
My goodness you took a big risk to carry on painting on the portrait, I always find when I do that it can change a painting completely! I do remember this one and it would have been great to see the before and the after images. I think this one looks slightly warmer in colour tones. I hope your hand recovers well and I agree you type so well with your left hand... why not try some left hand art for a challenge! Beautiful painting Rahina.
it truely is a wonderful painting Rahina. What in the world happened to your hand?
Make sure you follow the Doc's orders. Left hand typing only.
Rahina, the painting is even more beautiful and mysterious in person ... I can't stop looking at it! Paul LOVES it ... the only problem is I'll have a really hard time topping this gift in future! Thanks again for all your hard work ... wishing you a speedy recovery, and looking forward to seeing where your art goes from here. :)
Thank you Anthony. I'm getting there;)
Hi Paul, i am so glad you like it in person... your enthusiasm is infectious, now i want to paint with this broken painting hand:)
Thank you Vincente, I hope so... I have only just realised how useful it is to have two hands;)
Hi Caroline, i know it was a risk but the alternative was a greater risk: what if the framer could not resolve the problem and I had Karen waiting for a portrait she wanted and did not exist any longer. the original was fixed and is in excellent condition (see under study of dreams XII on this blog). Thank you for your kind wishes and thoughts:)
hi Gary, check out my facebook page for a close up of hand;) and thank you for your thoughts on the painting:)
hi Karen, this makes me happy... even the sore hand doesn't feel so sore anymore. it is unfortunate that photography can never get the colours and other features of a painting just right and i didn't put the painting on the blog til i got your okay. thank you again for your support in more ways than you can imagine:)
I really like the outcome of the portrait Rahina. I wish speedy recovery for your hand.
A hug
Rahina,
Here's to a healthy hand, don't risk re-injury by typing or some other premature usage... you'll get back.
@Caroline... 'Why not try some left hand art...'
That too was my thought... but have you ever really tried that? I have just to see if I could ... it's really tough because it's so unnatural. It's like working from a mirror, you have to reverse everything you know. Try it.
My Dad was able to do that. He had MS and realizing he may one day lose use of his left hand (he was left handed) he figured he had better learn to use his right. His art signed with his last name meant he did it left handed , signed with his first name , he did it right handed. That was part of his genius.
Congrats on the sale Rahina. They are very lucky people indeed!
Thank you Concha, for your thoughts on this painting and our kind wishes:)
that's a great idea but my left hand is rather incompetent and have admiration for people like your father who rise to any challenge with a solution! anyway i am back painting with a fancy new brush hold and an interestingly new perspective to my painting technique. if the two paintings i am working on at the moment work out i will post them and let's see what response i get as a three fingered artist;)
thank you Nicki:)
Great drama! And I love that green and rust palette.
Great feeling to have something finished and accepted to your own and your client's satisfaction. It's a good painting Rahina. Hope your hand gets right soon. How frustrating!!
I enjoyed your
Work very much
Good Creations
This is a great painting, i love the contrast of the green with the russet colours. It makes the sitter look very poetic, as though he would be fascinating to talk to.
thank you Gwen, appreciate you taking the time to give me your thoughts on this.
Thanks Sheila, yes my hand is much better now though i can't say much for my painting as i am so busy with other things to get to the easel;(.
thank you brandnewstudio for your thoughts and visit
thank you Sunders. Just checked out your blog. it is a good record of your development and the line drawings of the men you did were great!
Just wonderful mood and modeling in this.
i hope you are well soon rahina and we can all enjoy your wonderful portraits...
Hello Rahina,
I've just finished reading all the comments, so I have a pretty good feel as to the state of your recovery.
May I add my own late good wishes and congratulate you on adapting to the injury.
Let me guess...you were upset--very upset with a painting and punched your fist through a wall. Was I even close?
Whatever it was, please be more careful from now on. Your many fans and followers need a daily dose of your wonderful art!
Have a good weekend.
Sincerely,
Gary.
thank you Mary for your kind comment.
thank you Rob, the hand has healed, now i have to get ideas for the next paintings... i wonder if i could go for some kind of creativity op next;)
thank you Gary for your kind wishes and as for the reason of my injury i can't say it was as exciting or dramatic as you described though you have given me an idea for future response to paintings that go wrong;) it was a problem with the joint of the finger which had stuff that needed to be scooped out of....i think that is the medical terminology;)
Rahina, this is absolutely fantastic work! wonderful light create such a mysterious atmosphere full of life!
rahina, Happy to hear your hand has healed...now "get crackin' "
paint paint paint
Thank you Mikko for your thoughts on this painting. i am glad you like this for those reasons:)
hi David, i should have also mentioned in my post that a few times in the year i have to leave my easel and do my day job. this has prevented me from painting. however, it does give me time to reflect as though the mind is still painting away and analysing. well i'm back now and hopefully i will post something in the next two weeks or so. thank you for your kind words, appreciate it:)
Wow, I love your blog! The Study of Dreams series is fabulous and I hope you do more.
Glad your hand is now better, that must have been very frustrating for a while!
Your portraits are brilliant. I am very impressed
